It’s my joy to introduce you to the writing of a sister in Christ today. Cynthia is a blessing to me and her heart for Jesus shines through in her life.
TENSION AND RELEASE = FLEXIBILITY
It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son (daughter) is there whom his father does not discipline? –Hebrews 12:7
Flexibility is the quality of bending easily without breaking. Allow me to illustrate this idea.
When we were kids (I have 4 younger siblings) we would collect rubber bands to wear as bracelets. It was cool at the time. I remember not really wanting to have lots of them, like some people, but I did enjoy looking for, finding and wearing them. Every once in a while we would find a rubber band that was too small for our wrists. Wearing it would pinch and leave a mark if we didn’t stretch it out a little. So we would pull and stretch on it to get it to fit (and hopefully it didn’t break in the process.)
My physical and emotional walk this past week reminded me of this “exercise” – high tension and then release, high tension and then release. Developing strength is a process and a challenging one at that! A person can’t be stretched to the full ends of his potential all at once or he will break. Isn’t it just like God to allow the tension (and the release) to slowly stretch us into the shape He wants us to be in!? He graciously and slowly stretches and releases to “fit” us for His kingdom.
Flexibility is also the ability to be easily modified. As I grow in my flexibility and submit to Him in obedience and in my responses to challenges, He is working to make me into what He wants me to be.
Lord, thank you for this insight and thank you for going about the process slowly. When I approach what I think is my breaking point, You gently remind me that this is for my good and Your glory. I love you, Lord. Amen.
